Filming on Ti West's "MaXXXine" Has Begun

In 2022, West's X trilogy's first two installments completely rocked the horror genre, and now it has been revealed that MaXXXine, the trilogy's concluding installment, has officially begun shooting.

This information was obtained from A24's Twitter account, which simply stated "Day 1 #MaXXXine." A sunny California licence plate with the obscene title prominently displayed accompanied the message. This follows the horror movie's casting announcement from last week. Lily Collins, Kevin Bacon, Giancarlo Esposito, Elizabeth Debicki, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Michelle Monaghan, and Moses Sumney join Goth's Maxine in the cast.

The X Trilogy So Far

When X came out in March of last year, horror fans had no idea it would spawn such a bizarre franchise. It appeared to be a return to the grindhouse slasher genre similar to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Tourist Trap. It focused on a gang of adult filmmakers who hired the farmhouse of an elderly couple, Howard and Pearl, in 1979 and produced a classic pornographic film under the direction of Goth's Maxine. Maxine's "American Dream" ambitions, however, swiftly cause Pearl (also played by Goth), who had her own goals of becoming a star when she was younger, to become envious. Pearl then goes on a killing spree as a result.

The truth of X couldn't have been further from what seemed to be merely another hard-R sex-heavy slasher. The incredible killings and thrills that we have come to expect from a slasher are undoubtedly present, but X became a classic instantly because of what it conveyed about dashed hopes, how older generations wrongly look down on the younger generation, and how America consumes the horror genre. Particularly considering Goth's masterful and spooky duelling performance as Maxine and Pearl. Goth was Oscar-worthy and delivered one of the best performances the horror genre has ever seen as two sides of the same tragic coin.

Then there was Pearl, whose frustrating origin tale made him our new favourite killer. Fans can revisit Pearl's early years in 1918 and learn more about her unwise desire to become the finest dancer in the world. If X was about how the elder generation views their younger contemporaries, Pearl is about how youth culture views its contemporaries in the exact same way. A joyous horror adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, Pearl served as a warning about what happens when our dreams take over. For this brilliant prequel, West and Goth step up their game. The horror community will never forgive the Oscars for failing to recognise Goth for her contributions to Pearl, a movie she co-wrote with West.
