B.L. England Generating Station | Power station | Building implosion | Beesleys Point: On Friday, a decommissioned power plant in Cape May County is expected to implode.

According to the town's office of emergency management, the demolition of the boiler units at the historic B.L. England Generating Station in the Beesley's Point neighbourhood of Upper Township will start at 9:30 a.m.

Residents may hear the loud sound of the implosion, but it will be conducted in a restricted area under controlled circumstances, officials added.

The shared use route on the Garden State Parkway bridge is one spot that has been designated for safe viewing.

A different date that has not yet been set for the demolition of the stack at the site of the defunct power plant.

On Thursday, a representative from Beesley's Point Development, the business that bought the property last year, was unavailable for comment.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, the plant was built in 1961 and used coal and diesel turbines to power it. According to the newspaper, an effort to get a gas pipeline across the Pinelands approved caused a proposal to switch to natural gas to fall through.

In May 2019, the power plant was shut down. Its constructions have been gradually destroyed in sections. The cooling tower collapsed in September 2022.
