American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing, the newest true crime documentary from Netflix, looks back at the terrible catastrophe that struck Boston a decade ago.

This three-part series explores the bombing and how law enforcement pinpointed the two brothers who carried it out: Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. It includes interviews with police officers, FBI agents, and regular individuals who witnessed the crime.

The docuseries mostly focuses on the Boston Marathon Bombing and the subsequent events, but it also briefly addresses Katherine Russell, Tamerlan Tsarnaev's widow. But who is Katherine Russell and where is she now?

Who is Katherine Russell?

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the brothers who carried out the Boston Marathon bombing, is survived by his widow Katherine Russell.

Russell, who was born in 1989 and grew up in Rhode Island, attended Suffolk University in Boston, where she first met Tamerlan Tsarnaev. After Tsarnaev dropped out of school in 2010, Russell reportedly converted to Islam as he grew more devout. They later got married and had a kid.

Friends of Russell claimed that Tamerlan was confrontational, violent, and domineering in their marriage and was prone to irrational outbursts, according to the National Public Radio (via Mail Online).

After carrying out the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013, which resulted in three deaths and hundreds of injuries, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev stole a car, held the owner hostage, and engaged in a shootout with police the next day, during which Tamerlan Tsarnaev was murdered.

A bit of female DNA was discovered on one of the pressure-cooker bombs used in the attacks, so the FBI investigated Russell's residence and collected evidence, including DNA samples. Her DNA and fingerprints, however, did not match those on the bombs.

According to The Washington Post, law enforcement also discovered extremist literature on her computer, including Inspire by al-Qaeda, but it was unclear who downloaded the contents.

Russell's attorney, according to BBC News, said that she was making every effort to aid in the inquiry and that she was unaware of her husband's whereabouts because she spent the majority of her time working as a health aide while he looked after their child at home.

The reports of her husband and brother-in-law's involvement in the attack, her lawyer continued, "came as an absolute shock" to Russell and her family.

Where is Katherine Russell now?

Russell and her daughter currently reside in New Jersey, according to WGBH in 2015.

Alina Tsarnaev, a sister of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, confirmed to The New York Post in August 2014 that Russell had remarried, saying, "Yes, she got married [again] and had a baby."
