Brooke Shields Talks Daughter's Modeling Aspirations and Changing Industry Dynamics

Hollywood icon Brooke Shields is known for her successful modeling career, but when it comes to her 17-year-old daughter, Grier, pursuing the same path, Shields admits to having mixed feelings. During a recent appearance on "Live with Kelly and Mark," Shields shared her thoughts on the industry and her protective instincts as a mother.

Reflecting on how the modeling landscape has evolved since her own heyday, Shields acknowledged that the rules have changed dramatically. While Grier has dabbled in modeling projects, Shields initially resisted the idea of her daughter fully venturing into the industry.

"I fought it for so long," Shields admitted. "It’s such a different industry now than it was."

The actress, famous for her roles in films like "Pretty Baby," emphasized the impact of social media on the modeling world. Shields remarked that the industry has become a "rat race" filled with new challenges and pressures.

Having experienced the demands of the profession firsthand, Shields expressed concern about Grier's interest in runway modeling, citing the backstage atmosphere as particularly challenging. Despite Shields never having pursued runway work herself, she understands its potential difficulties and wants to protect her daughter from them.

Ultimately, Shields had to come to terms with her daughter's dreams and set some ground rules. She insisted on Grier maintaining a strong work ethic and emphasized that the journey would not be comfortable. Additionally, Shields made it clear that education is a priority and that Grier must attend college.

Also, Shields used her presence on the talk programme to advertise her documentary, "Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields." The documentary, which was released on Hulu in April, explores Shields's experiences of early sexualization, her connection with her mother, her tumultuous love life, and her children' conflicted reactions to the tell-all film.

The accomplished actress shares her daughters, Rowan Francis and Grier Hammond, with her husband, Chris Henchy. As Grier pursues her modeling aspirations, Shields remains a protective and guiding force, navigating the ever-changing landscape of the industry while ensuring her daughter's well-being and future.
