Sofia, a daughter of Lionel Richie, marries a Jewish music executive

Less than a month after declaring that her conversion to Judaism was complete, Sofia Richie, a US model and the daughter of musician Lionel Richie, wed Jewish music businessman Elliot Grainge.

Richie wrote on Instagram earlier this month that famed Los Angeles cantor Nathan Lam had been "helping me along this journey of converting to Judaism."

On April 3, she declared that she had successfully converted, writing on Instagram, "It has been one of the greatest experiences of my life."

According to a rumour in Vogue magazine, Richie, 24, and Grainge, 29, got married in a hotel in Antibes, France, officiated by British rabbi Rabbi Thomas Solomon. In addition, a private ceremony was held to sign the ketubah, which is the Jewish marriage contract.

A luxuriant chuppah can be seen over the newlyweds and their parents in pictures, while Grainge is wearing a white kippah and tallit. Now that I've converted, it's vital to me as well as Elliot's family that it be a traditional Jewish wedding, Richie told Vogue.

Since 2021, the couple has been dating. Grainge is the son of Lucian Grainge, the CEO of Universal Music Group, one of the largest music corporations in the world and a self-described "nice Jewish boy," who grew up in England and operates an independent rap and pop music company.

Take That, a British pop band that had multiple number-one singles in the 1990s and 2000s, gave a performance at Elliot Grainge's bar mitzvah, he revealed to JewishBoston.com in 2013.

Richie attended the Oaks Christian School in Los Angeles while growing up. Nicole, Richie's adoptive sister, is a well-known TV personality in her own right. Her father Lionel, 73, started his career in the 1970s as a member of The Commodores and went on to become one of the best-selling pop musicians of all time.

Lam, a former senior cantor at the city's Stephen Wise Temple, a Reform congregation that is one of Southern California's largest, and a former celebrity voice coach, has been charged of engaging in numerous illicit sexual interactions with members of the congregation and mentees. He has been a cantor at the Temple of the Arts in Beverly Hills since last year. This Reform congregation meets in a theatre owned by Democratic Party heavyweight and millionaire Haim Saban.
