MaXXXine, the anticipated follow-up to Ti West's '70s-set X, debuted its first image on Monday through A24. Maxine, who is now pursuing success as an adult film actress in 1980s Los Angeles, is played by Goth again in the movie. "The life she deserves," reads the caption on A24. A fur-clad Halsey may be seen in the picture with Goth.
X discovered an elderly couple who had gone insane and were acting homicidally when they learned that the youthful visitors to their farm were making an adult movie. In the prequel Pearl from 2022, in which Goth played a younger version of the ageing slasher from X, West and Goth once more worked together.
A star-studded cast led by Kevin Bacon, Elizabeth Debicki, Lily Collins, Bobby Cannavale, Giancarlo Esposito, Moses Sumney, and Michelle Monaghan, MaXXXine is also directed by West.
In New Zealand, West shot X and Pearl back-to-back.
The director admitted to Entertainment Weekly last year that "we probably would have done it" if he or she had foresight to write three consecutive scripts. "Unfortunately, I'm a little lazy and I could only think of two," the speaker said.
The most recent horror film using goth was Infinity Pool by Brandon Cronenberg. Other films directed by West include House of the Devil (2009), The Innkeepers (2011), and In a Valley of Violence (2016).
