Prior to their divorce, Kevin Costner's wife wasn't happy about his obsession with work

Prior to filing for divorce last week, Christine Baumgartner, Kevin Costner's estranged wife, reportedly stated that she was "unhappy" with his work schedule.

A source close to the family told People on Monday that, despite their breakup, "Christine wants them to spend family time at their Santa Barbara home."

"Kevin isn't around much while the movie is being shot. She has struggled greatly without him.

The insider claimed the actor was "obsessed" with directing, producing, and staring in his new movie, "Horizon," which was set in southern Utah from August through November 2022, despite being aware of his wife's unhappiness.

The insider merely stated, "She wasn't happy about it.

The publication was informed by a second insider in the entertainment business that Costner's job has periodically "taken precedence over his home life."

"Due to filming, the popularity of 'Yellowstone,' and the time needed for his other projects, Kevin hasn't spent a lot of time at home recently. Given his prominent position in the popular Western drama series, he has been in high demand, the source claimed.

According to the insider, the actor from "Bodyguard"'s "success and excitement over the new film undoubtedly stole his attention away from his family more than he realised.

It led to anxiety at home because it didn't seem like things would improve and possibly became worse, the individual said.

After 18 years of marriage, 49-year-old Baumgartner filed for divorce from her estranged spouse last week, citing "irreconcilable differences."

According to a source who later spoke with the media, Costner, 68, was "very surprised" when she filed.

The insider disclosed, "He obviously doesn't want the divorce, and he would take her back," adding that he still "loves [Baumgartner] and he loves his children."

Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12, are the three children the ex-couple share; each parent asked for joint custody.

Since then, Baumgartner has been shown with daughter Grace and out and about sans her wedding band.

Since the breakup became public knowledge, Costner has kept a low profile, but the day before his wife filed, he was seen grinning and wearing his wedding ring.

Shortly after she filed, Paramount declared that the upcoming fifth season of "Yellowstone" would be the last.
