Chelsea Handler Reveals the Real Reason Behind Breakup with Ted Harbert: Threesome with Masseuse Ended the Relationship

Chelsea Handler, the well-known comedian, has opened up about the true cause that led to the end of her four-year relationship with Ted Harbert, the former NBC Broadcasting chairman and president of E! Entertainment during the premiere of her late-night show in 2006.

During an interview on Andy Cohen's SiriusXM show, Handler, who is 48 years old, was asked if she had ever dated a woman. She disclosed that while she had "slept" with a woman, she had not been in a romantic relationship with one. This revelation prompted Cohen to inquire further, wondering if it was a one-time occurrence.

Handler replied, describing it as a threesome experience. When asked about her thoughts on the encounter, she expressed that it was enjoyable and mentioned her willingness to engage in such an experience again if the opportunity arose. Additionally, Handler revealed that the woman who participated in the threesome with her and her then-boyfriend was their masseuse.

Handler confessed, "I was very attracted to this woman. I ended up hooking up with her multiple times without the guy I was dating. That's when I realized it was time to end the relationship."

Handler and Harbert began dating in 2006, the same year her show, The Chelsea Handler Show, debuted on E! Network. They moved in together just a few months into their relationship. However, in 2012, Handler told Marie Claire magazine that the reason for their breakup was Harbert's inability to separate business from their personal lives.

According to Handler, she would come home from work, and Harbert would suggest watching her show, to which she would decline, as she had just finished performing. She explained, "That was ultimately why it didn't work out, I believe."

Reflecting on the past, Handler now acknowledges that the threesome may have played a role in the breakup. Furthermore, she admitted that she never disclosed her subsequent encounters with the masseuse to Harbert.

"I don't think I ever revealed that, but well, maybe he's listening now," she humorously remarked. "His name is Ted Harbert. Although he's currently in Portugal, he might not have access to this information as he and his wife are building a house there."

For the record, Handler recently dated comedian Jo Koy for nearly a year before their split in June 2022. She stated that if she were in a relationship, she would be open to gifting her partner a threesome experience, emphasizing that it can be fun.

During the same interview, Cohen inquired whether it bothered Handler that some people perceived her success on E! Network as a result of her relationship with the network's boss. Handler dismissed the notion, stating that it didn't matter if it wasn't true. She emphasized her 25-year career and expressed that she doesn't concern herself with what others think.
