Kanye West, Known for Public Antics, Previously Criticized Kim Kardashian for Her Overly Sexy Attire

We need Kanye West to address the hypocrisy; this is a moment of introspection.

The divisive rapper, fresh off the buzz of his eyebrow-raising water taxi escapade in Italy alongside his "wife" Bianca Censori, finds himself in the spotlight once again. It's worth revisiting a moment when he publicly criticized his first wife, Kim Kardashian, for what he deemed as "overly sexy" attire.

The incident unfolded in the lead-up to the 2019 Met Gala, a spectacle documented by "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." Kanye West, the Grammy-winning artist at the time aged 46, expressed his disapproval of Kim's choice of outfit – a custom-designed, crystal-dripping silk organza corset-style minidress crafted by French designer Thierry Mugler.

In the midst of Kim's final fitting for the Gala, which centered on the theme of "Camp: Notes on Fashion," Kanye, in a candid moment, remarked, "The corset, underwear, all of that vibe, I just feel like I went through this transition from being a rapper, looking at all these girls, and then looking at my wife, like, 'Oh, my girl needs to be just like these other girls, showing her body off, showing this, showing that.'"

He continued, "I didn’t realize that that was affecting my soul and my spirit as someone that’s married and loved, the father of what’s about to be four kids. A corset is a form of underwear. It’s hot. It’s like, it’s hot for who, though?"

Kim Kardashian, 42 at the time, responded with frustration, highlighting the "negative energy" her husband's last-minute critique was generating. Kanye, however, stood his ground, asserting, "You are my wife, and it affects me when pictures are too sexy."

Kim, the founder of Skims and mother of their children North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm, reminded him that he had played a pivotal role in building her confidence and projecting her as a "sexy person."

She argued, "Just because you’re on your journey and you’re on a transformation doesn’t mean that I’m in the same spot with you."

Despite the heated exchange, Kanye made a surprising appearance the following day, accompanying Kim on the iconic pink carpet outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

This incident serves as a stark contrast to Kanye's stance just three years prior. In July 2016, he spoke glowingly of Kim's nude photos in an interview with Harper's Bazaar. At that time, he expressed deep admiration for her body and likened it to a modern version of a Renaissance painting. His support for Kim's self-expression and confidence was unmistakable.

Fast forward to the cheeky boat ride in Venice where Kanye sailed the canals with his pants partially down, attracting considerable attention from bystanders and the media. He was joined by Bianca Censori, who interestingly opted for a more modest trench coat instead of her usual sheer ensembles.

Notably, Kanye's life took an unexpected turn when he "married" Yeezy employee Bianca Censori in January, just two months after finalizing his divorce from Kim Kardashian. However, this union is non-legally binding.

Kanye's journey has been one of twists and turns, from celebrating Kim's confidence to criticizing her fashion choices. It's a reminder of how individuals and relationships evolve over time, and how public figures often find themselves under intense scrutiny.
