Travis Scott is set to make his return to the stage, nearly two years after the tragic Astroworld incident in 2021, where 10 lives were lost and hundreds were left injured.
In an announcement made on Wednesday, the rapper unveiled his forthcoming tour, "Utopia – Circus Maximus," which will kick off on October 11 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and conclude in Toronto, Canada, in December. This tour will encompass a total of 28 North American cities, as detailed in a press release.
This significant tour follows Scott's electrifying live performance at the Circus Maximus in Rome, Italy, earlier this month. The event sold out an astounding 60,000 tickets in just two days, causing concerns about potential seismic activity due to the sheer energy of the crowd.
Notably, this marks Travis Scott's first official tour since the tragic Astroworld Festival, an event he had both organized and headlined. The festival took a nightmarish turn as concertgoers during Scott's performance found themselves crushed in the crowd, with many struggling to breathe amidst the chaos. Subsequently, authorities declared the concert a "mass casualty event."
Fast forward to late June this year, Travis Scott was exonerated of criminal charges by the Houston District Attorney's office, a development revealed by District Attorney Kim Ogg during a press conference. However, the artist is still contending with a slew of civil lawsuits brought forth by the families of victims affected by the Astroworld tragedy.
In a heartfelt statement issued following the tragic event, Scott expressed his deep distress over the situation and his fervent desire to offer condolences and assistance to the victims and their families as swiftly as possible.
Scott's fourth studio album, "Utopia," was released just last month. This rap album has maintained a steady reign at the coveted No. 1 position on Billboard's Hot 200 Albums chart for an impressive four consecutive weeks.
In the press release issued on Wednesday, the tour promises an immersive audiovisual experience that will transport fans into uncharted realms of entertainment. Additionally, it was revealed that a portion of the proceeds from every ticket sale will be dedicated to Scott's Cactus Jack Foundation. This foundation plays a pivotal role in supporting the youth of Houston through initiatives such as toy drives, scholarship programs, and financial aid for education and creative endeavors.
For those eager to secure their spot at the "Utopia – Circus Maximus" tour, ticket sales are scheduled to commence on Thursday at 10 AM, tailored to the buyer's respective time zone.
