Michael Cera Reveals Close Call: His Near-Marriage to Aubrey Plaza for the Sake of an 'Ex-Wife' Nickname

Michael Cera • Aubrey Plaza • Scott Pilgrim vs. the World • Rihanna • Las Vegas • Edgar Wright • Barbie:
Michael Cera came close to marrying Aubrey Plaza, his co-star in the 2010 film "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World," according to an interview with Rolling Stone. Cera shared that they had planned to wed during a trip to Las Vegas and then quickly get a divorce so they could refer to each other as "my ex-husband" and "my ex-wife" at a young age. However, the wedding did not take place, and Plaza married filmmaker Jeff Baena in 2021, while Cera has been married to Nadine Cera since 2017.

Despite not getting married, Cera and Plaza will reunite for the upcoming animated Netflix series based on "Scott Pilgrim." The original cast, including Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Kieran Culkin, and others, will also return to voice their respective characters. Director Edgar Wright expressed his excitement about bringing the entire cast together again for this project, which expands the universe of "Scott Pilgrim."

The series, yet to be titled officially, will feature original songs by Anamanaguchi and will be animated by Science SARU studios, with Abel Gongora directing.

Wright also reflected on the initial reception of the "Scott Pilgrim" film, which was considered a box office disappointment but gained a cult following over time. He compared the film's journey to that of "Citizen Kane" and "Blade Runner," emphasizing that a movie's success should not be solely judged by its opening weekend and that many acclaimed films were not initially hits at the box office.
